Considering Joel's fascination with all things China we knew we needed to check out the largest Buddhist Temple in the southern hemisphere. Little did we know we chose the day of their Yearly Celebration to visit. We drove up and immediately felt the reverence and spirit of the place. It was quiet, serene and peaceful. We walked into the first temple and witnessed worhsipers praying, kneeling and offering inscence to Buddha. Parents were teaching their children how to pray and kneel before Buddha. It felt sacred and strange that we were witnessing such an event. Then we walked up to the second temple and could see something big occuring. Dancers and performers were lined up outside with beautiful costumes. Tables were full of beautiful food and offerings. An usher quickly guided us inside found us a seat and put meals in front of us. Buddhist priests were chanting song and the audience was singing along. Then came the offering time when it was our turn to partake of the food. Dancers, singers and musicians also gave their offerings. It was surreal! Jake and I couldn't believe where we were, something straight out of a movie. I really felt the spirit of it and my heart changed towards these people. They were extremely kind, welcoming and I could tell they felt devotion and gratitude toward God. Joel was fascinated and went around with his hands in prayer.

That looks so cool! How was the food?
oh my, what a special experience!
the food was really tasty. A platter of rice, chicken, beef, some coleslaw thing, water and a manderin orange (ofcourse) it was very filling. I ususally don't like chinese food but like this.
How amazing! Love the pic with Joel and the statue:)
The best kind of education Joel could receive-hands on. Awesome. Where was the pickle? Reno Grandma
he was there...pretty reverent too. There's no way they could have sat through it without having been to church every Sunday of their lives. Great training! There was an older child that started to cry and the ushers "ushered" him right out. like immediately. and then the family followed afterwards. There's a lesson on Japanese parenting for you.
What a neat cultural experience! I too love the picture of Joel mimicking the statue
What an amazing experience!
